Available in both Serial and Non-Serial Variations

The centennial logo was added to the front of the 1967 note and a view of Canada’s original Parliament Buildings was substituted for the prairie landscape that appeared on back of the 1954 note. The engraving, previously used on an 1872 Dominion of Canada $100 note, shows the original Centre Block, which was destroyed by fire in 1916. The Parliamentary Library, the only part of the original building to survive the fire, was not completed at the time of this engraving and so is not visible. A second version of the 1967 note, featuring the years “1867 1967” in place of serial numbers, was also issued to appeal to collectors.

The portrait of the Queen is based on the same Karsh photograph that was used as the source for the metallic image of Her Majesty on the 2015 commemorative note. For the 1954 series, the crown was removed to distinguish the portrait from another, based on the same photo, which had recently been featured on a Canadian stamp. The original engraving was done by George Gundersen of the British American Bank Note Company and later enhanced by the Canadian Bank Note Company engraver Yves Baril.
