The Bank of Canada's $1 note features Queen Elizabeth II on one side and the Ottawa River and Parliament building on the reverse. Note is composed primarily in black colour. The face of each denomination displays the multicoloured Canadian Coat of Arms and a red serial number on the left half, while a black portrait is on the right with the serial number repeated in blue. For the first time since the 1937 issue, portraits of former Canadian Prime Ministers replace that of the ruling British monarch on some denominations.
