Famously the site of the bloodiest Civil War battle, Pennsylvania’s Gettysburg National Military Park was selected as the location to be depicted on the sixth coin in this series. These coins weigh five troy ounces of pure .999 fine silver and are eligible for precious metal IRAs, similar to the Silver Eagle series. This makes them popular with collectors, investors, and history enthusiasts.
The Gettysburg coin’s obverse (front) side features a restored version of John Flanagan’s famous portrait of George Washington from the 1932 Washington quarter.
The reverse (back) shows the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument located at Cemetery Ridge. This design was created specifically for this coin by the master coin designer and artist Joel Iskowitz. This is the first of several he designed in the series. Inscribed on this side going clockwise is “PENNSYLVANIA,” “GETTYSBURG,” E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “2011,” the year it was released.
